Sometimes a sliver of time while I’m shooting gets a hold of me & I lose myself in the story of it.
It speaks to my heart.
It’s in the way she is gently protecting him, ready to pounce.
Yet, allowing him his freedom to learn and explore, to see the world through the eyes of his own soul.
Such a beautiful metaphor for motherhood.
60 miles east of Manhattan the picturesque 28-acre Mama Farm, where Elettra Wiedemann and her beautiful family are fostering a unique, vibrant community on Long Island.

Founded by Italian actress and author of My Chickens and I, Isabella Rossellini, and overseen by her daughter Elettra Wiedemann, the atmosphere of Mama Farm is inspired by the Italian piazza–a vibrant setting at the core of the community for gathering and inspiring the preservation and rejuvenation of Mother Earth, the Mama on whom we all depend.
Elettra has also dedicated much of her career immersed in every aspect of food.
From publishing her first cookbook Impatient Foodie,
to creating successful pop-ups,
hosting Vogue‘s digital cooking show Elettra’s Goodness with notable guests ranging from Blake Lively to Seth Meyers to Grace Coddington,
to planting and planning the daily happenings at Mama Farm.
Capturing her in her element, on the farm with her family, is what made this family portrait session so special.

We ended our session with a walk around the beautiful property.
